In the southern Oquirrh's lie the hills and mountains where US General Patrick Connor and his soldiers staked numerous mining claims in the early 1860's. After 150 years, there still remain the old Gisbourne toll road, steadily climbing up the west face of Bald Mountain; the ruins of Jacob City, a thriving mining town of 300 established in 1865; the steep, rugged mining road which took men, animals, and ore down Dry Canyon; Soldier Canyon Road, with it's remnants of silver ore kilns beside the way; and the old pack trail ascending the South Fork of Soldier Canyon.
Tackle the beauty of these challenging, high-elevation roads; take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding Oquirrh Mountains, Tooele and Rush Valleys, and the Stansbury, Onaqui, and Sheeprock Mountain Ranges from 10,006 ft Bald Mountain East.

Course Description
Starting at an elevation of 5,800 ft, runners will head southeast, up the Bald Mountain Rd, climbing 4.7 miles to the Dry Canyon junction - DO NOT descend the Dry Canyon trail; continue climbing for another 0.4 miles to the Bald Mountain Loop junction (8,450 ft). Here you will take a hairpin turn west - just 0.1 miles later, be sure to take another hairpin turn northeast, to continue your climb up the switchback to the Commodore Pass aid station (mile 6.7 & 9,250 ft).
Upon leaving the aid station you will ascend the east face of Bald Mountain West (mile 7 & an overall height of 9,626 ft); runners will then descend the west face of Bald Mountain West, enjoying stunning views of Rush & Tooele Valleys; the Stansbury, Onaqui, and Sheeprock ranges, and the return trip back to the Start/Finish Area. At mile 7.2 (9,400 ft) be sure to take the hairpin turn to the south, continuing your descent of Bald Mountain West. At mile 7.9, you will turn to the southeast, then due east, to rejoin the Bald Mountain Loop trail (mile 8.4) After a short 0.1 mile descent, you will turn southwest, back onto the Bald Mountain Rd; you will then descend the road for 3.4 miles where you will experience the great love the Race Director has for you! You must turn northwest at the water station (mile 11.8), deviating from the Bald Mountain Rd, for your final 1.8-mile descent down a steep, gnarly, technical ATV trail! Once you get to the pole line road, it's just a quarter mile sprint north to the finish!
